As if exploring the ocean depths isn't difficult and dangerous enough, how do we tell compelling stories about this deep, dark world, and make focused scientific research relatable and entertaining to lay audiences? Using National Geographic Channel's Alien Deep as a case study, scientists Bob Ballard and
Kakani Katija, and filmmakers Jared Lipworth, Kirk Wolfinger and Lisa Wolfinger explore the challenges of deep ocean filmmaking.
