An educational outreach program for local students held in conjunction with Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and NOAA's Adopt a Drifter Program. Students will convene on the docks for educational activities and the pre-launch buoy ceremony, in which winning artwork and essays will be honored and become part of a modern day "message in a bottle" experiment. Students will then be able to track their adopted buoy over the next 400 days as it travels via the ocean currents.
The mission of this educational intitiative is to give students an interactive learning experience that increases their understanding of marine currents, fosters interest in the ocean related sciences and comprehension of how the ocean connects us all.
