Content Strategy for Social Media Success

Most social media initiatives are doomed to fail due to a lack of a content strategy. In this 2-hour workshop, content marketing expert Russell Sparkman will provide insight and background into the increasingly crucial role that content strategy plays in achieving success in a multi-platform world, of which social media is just one aspect.
The second half of the workshop is a hands-on activity in which attendees -- individually or in small groups -- will be given a content strategy assignment to apply to their own projects, and will present the results of the assignment to the group.

Films to Books

While books have been adapted to film for years, little has been offered about how to go the other way – making films into books. Nationally recognized book publisher Frank Gromling takes filmmakers through the sometimes harrowing process of converting their films to best selling books. Gromling identifies the primary publishing methods and reveals how to navigate around the major pitfalls. This interactive workshop provides a step-by-step way to prepare a query, submit a proposal, analyze publishing houses, and negotiate contracts. Participants draft a query letter and a book proposal, with both reviewed during the session. As a result of this program, everyone will understand why converting films to books makes sense and how to accomplish it successfully.

Cuba's Living Time Machine & Important Lessons for MPAs

A thought-provoking discussion on marine protected areas and how we can leverage the success of Cuba.

More than 18 million tuned in to see Anderson Cooper journey to Cuba to dive with Drs. David E. Guggenheim and Fabián Pina among stunningly healthy coral reefs, surrounded by scores of large sharks and imperiled fish species in the Edward R. Murrow Award-winning 60 MINUTES segment, Gardens of the Queen. Join Guggenheim, the “Ocean Doctor,” for an encore screening, a behind-the-scenes look at the 60 MINUTES presentation and a distinguished panel to discuss the significance of the piece and the important lessons it highlights about marine protected areas (MPAs) and Cuba’s unique example.

Named by Christopher Columbus to honor Queen Isabel, Cuba’s Jardines de la Reina, or Gardens of the Queen, is one of the healthiest coral reef ecosystems remaining in the Caribbean. In a world where coral reefs are dying, the corals in the Gardens of the Queen are flourishing, and like a living time machine, the Gardens likely resemble the healthy coral reefs Columbus saw, avoiding the rapid decline so common throughout the Caribbean and the rest of the world. What makes this ecosystem so healthy? What are the implications for coral reefs elsewhere? What is the role of diving in this special ecosystem? And how is this ecosystem bringing Americans and Cubans closer together?  Join us to learn more.
